About

Simon Gilmer (*1997) is currently studying art at the HfG Offenbach. Previously, he completed his bachelor’s degree in architecture at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. His work operates at the intersection of sculpture, photography, and spatial design. Through his sculptural practice, Simon Gilmer explores the aesthetic and spatial impact of functional objects and infrastructure by observation, photographic documentation and by translating their form into cardboard models.

"There is a feeling that I believe most people have experienced at some point. It happens when you've moved or rearranged your bed. For the first few days, when you wake up at night and find yourself lying in bed, you may think the wall is on your right, but it’s actually on your left. This moment of disorientation, discomfort, and surprise, that comes to mind, can even leave you feeling a bit ashamed. If my work can evoke this kind of sensation, it brings me a sense of peace and satisfaction."
